Your Car. Your Data. Your Choice.™ is an Auto Care Association and Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) education initiative created to engage car owners, policymakers and other stakeholders on car data – what is it, why it matters and its implications for consumer choice.

We believe car owners should have the right to directly access and control their car data. We’re fighting to put car data back where it belongs – in the hands of car owners.

What is Car Data?

And why does it matter to you?

Cars collect important data as you drive.

They gather data about your location, driving behavior, vehicle health and more.

Who owns your car data? Not you.

If your data is stored on a computer inside your car, you can control who accesses it. But newer cars began wirelessly transmitting data — straight to car manufacturers.

Only car manufacturers control who sees your data and how it's used.

They could share and sell it with third parties without your consent or knowledge.

That could cost you money.

Car data is important for maintenance and repair. If auto manufacturers control it, they could limit the number of places you can take your car for service. You could be stuck with a more expensive option or have to take your car somewhere that's inconvenient for you.
